BIO: Comprovisation
Experimental compositions and free improvisation with the members of Budapest Improvisers Orchestra
JAZZAJ AT ÁTLÁTSZÓ HANG FESTIVAL

The members of this nine-piece orchestra are composers, classical musicians playing contemporary music and performers known from the free jazz scene. They navigate a wide spectrum of creative-artistic freedom through concert pieces that use improvisation in various ways and levels. To compose and to improvise are actually very similar activities – but the latter lacks the opportunity to „revise”, to change one’s mind. It is like drawing with a pen you cannot lift from the paper. How does the audience relate to this? Do we listen differently if we know that the decisions are made before our very eyes? What mechanisms do the open form compositions of the 60s and 70s have where only a set of rules provide something predefined to hold on to?
The orchestra will perform in the hope that not only their music will be „experimental” but the audience will also apprehend to experiment with their listening and presence – and to reflect on their expectations towards music – through living the liberating state of creative/active attention.
